New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel did not mince words when talking about the struggles of kicker Andy Borregales.
The second-year specialist went 1-of-2 on field goals in Sunday's win over the Miami Dolphins. Thing started off well with him hitting a 34-yard field goal to open the game. However, he missed a 40-yard attempt in the second quarter. That marked his third missed field goal of the 2026 season, making him 11-of-14 overall.
"He has, and that needs to get corrected. I've got a lot of confidence in Andy," Vrabel said, via Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller. "I think when you see the timing and when the approach is in rhythm, it looks really good. We have to make our kicks. Everybody has a job here. There's no real message. It's, 'Hey, we've
got to make them.' But I've got a lot of confidence.
"I thought he did a really nice job on the kickoff with the ball placement. Hopefully, he's making a lot of extra points and not having to kick a lot of field goals."
When asked about the possibility of bringing in another kicker, Vrabel didn't seem like he is ready to go down that road quite yet. He believes that Borregales can shake it off and be more consistent. However, another bad performance could quickly change things.
Borregales was one of the most efficient and productive kickers at the collegiate level. Unfortunately, that has not translated to the NFL to this point.
