FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Christian Gonzalez has stayed fairly quiet regarding his ongoing contract negotiations with the New England Patriots. However, his trainer did quite the opposite.
Christian White recently went on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger and Mazz” to discuss the contract negotiations, saying that while he thought that they were "getting close," the language in the Patriots' offer was "kind of trash."
"It was true at the time, but it's just not all the way true," White said in regard to Kraft's comments about the organization willing to make him the highest-paid cornerback. "Like, the context is like, yeah we did offer you to be the highest paid, but contract language was kind of trash. So, we kind of had to sort through that stuff to make it make sense."
"He's expressed to everybody, he wants to be there," he added. "He's fell in love with the place. He wants to be there for however many more years they agree on the extension, and probably even further after that. I'm just hoping they do right by him."
And with that, White made a bold prediction, saying that he "wouldn't be shocked if this gets done before the Seattle game."
So, what did Gonzalez think of White's comments? Was he upset about his trainer speaking out publicly when he's made a point of keeping it out of the media?
“That’s my guy. We have two different opinions,” Gonzalez said. “I mean, he’s a grown man. If he wants to go talk on the media, he’s gonna go talk on the media. He’s my guy. I trust him with everything. He trusts me with everything. We talk every day. So it wasn’t anything to me that was bad, or I mean, he went and talked to them. So, I talked to him maybe two hours after I came back and saw all that. So I mean, nothing crazy at all.
“We joked about other things, but not about what he said.”
