New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was asked about the ongoing trade rumors involving defensive tackle Christian Barmore and cornerback Carlton Davis III when speaking with media members on Wednesday.
NFL insider Albert Breer suggested that Barmore "could be had" for potentially a fourth-round draft pick. He also mentioned Davis as a possible trade piece
the Patriots might consider moving ahead of the November 10 deadline.Vrabel downplayed the trade talk as the typical rumor chatter that usually pops up around this time of the year.
“I think sometimes national reports have a tendency to do that. I have not shared that information with anybody," Vrabel said. "This time of year, I think all these things kind of get drummed up. We're focused
on trying to prepare for Green Bay. ...So I don't know where a lot of these things come from, certainly not any conversations with me."
If the Patriots truly are a win-now team, it really wouldn't make sense to move off two of their best defensive players. Even with Barmore's snaps declining, the team is clearly still better with him than without him on the roster.
And the drop-off behind Davis would be even more crushing for the defense.
It remains to be seen whether the Patriots will be buyers or sellers ahead of the deadline. But there's also a strong possibility that they will be neither.
