The New England Patriots announed that they have placed starting right guard Mike Onwenu on injured reserve Tuesday. They also signed punter Mitch Wishnowsky to the active roster and added tight end Tanner Arkin to the practice squad.
Onwenu was moved to injured reserve after sustaining an ankle injury during New England’s 20-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The veteran guard left the game early, creating an immediate challenge for a Patriots offensive line that has relied on his experience and talents. His designation will keep him off the active roster for at least four games as the Patriots evaluate their options at right guard.
Wishnowsky was signed to provide his services in the punting game after handling duties for New England
in each of the team’s first two games of the season. The veteran Wishnowsky has recorded eight punts for 362 punt yards, including four punts inside of opponents’ 20-yard line on the season.
Arkin was added to the practice squad to add to the team’s depth at tight end. He has played four special teams snaps on the season for New England.
