With the NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching, many have wondered if the New England Patriots will make a blockbuster move to improve its roster. However, NFL insider Albert Breer mentioned that the team might consider trading defensive tackle Christian Barmore.
The former second-round draft pick has been a key contributor along the defensive front, and he has provided a strong one-two punch with Milton Williams. But his snap count has noticeably dipped in 2026, and Breer believes he could be had for the right price.
Breer wrote:
"The Patriots are deep in the AFC race, but veteran DT Christian Barmore could be had, having played only 41.9% of the team’s defensive snaps, falling behind Milton Williams and Cory Durden in the team’s rotation."
Barmore
has five combined tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble so far this season. There would be interested suitors for his services, but the Patriots would also have to think up ways to replace him. Perhaps they view a player like Cory Durden as being ready to take the mantle in that role.
Moving on from Barmore would be a shake-up for the defensive line, but the team is built in a way with the right depth to handle that kind of move.
