Solving the New England Patriots depth issues at edge rusher might be as simple as calling up an old friend.
When appearing on NBC Sports Boston, NFL Insider Albert Breer suggested Washington Commanders veteran defender K'Lavon Chaisson as a potential trade option for the Patriots ahead of the November 10 deadline next week.
"Maybe they could bring K'Lavon Chaisson back from Washington," Breer noted.
The Patriots could certainly use help on the edge with Harold Landry III still sidelined. There has been no clear timetable on when or if Landry will return this season. Adding a reliable veteran like Chaisson to the mix would be a huge lift for the defensive depth at the position.
Chaisson finished second in sacks last season for the Patriots with
7.5 sacks on opposing quarterbacks. During the postseason run, he tied with defensive tackle Milton Williams for a team-high three sacks.
Dre'Mont Jones was brought in as the replacement for Chaisson, but so far, he has only recorded one sack this year. Meanwhile, Chaisson has 3.5 sacks this season with the Commanders. He is a player who excelled under Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr last year.
Maybe that door to a reunion isn't completely closed.
