The New England Patriots are back in the win column.
After a disappointing Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the Patriots bounced back in a major way in Sunday's AFC clash with the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers.
The offense looked sluggish for a second straight week, but third-year quarterback Drake Maye made more plays than he did in the opener. He also threw his fourth interception in two games, which was one of several plays he'd probably want to have back.
By the end of the game, the young gunslinger finished going 14-of-22 passing for 208 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. It wasn't a highlight worthy day, but he did enough to help win the game.
Speaking of winning the game, the Patriots were dominant defensively against the Steelers.
Defensive tackle Christian Barmore secured a strip sack fumble that led to a scoop-and-score touchdown by Patriots edge rusher Elijah Ponder. Rookie edge rusher Gabe Jacas also secured a pop-up interception late in the game that sealed it for the defense.
The only offensive touchdown came on a 39-yards sprint by running back TreVeyon Henderson, who returned to the field for the first time this season in Sunday's game.
New England controlled the game throughout, and the Steelers never appeared to be in it. They still need to clean up some of the sloppy play on offense, including running back Rhamondre Stevenson's fumble and one dropped pass by veteran wideout Romeo Doubs, who played significantly better and led all receivers with three catches for 96 yards.
Next week, the Patriots will be back on the road for a head-to-head showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
