FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Drake Maye and A.J. Brown might have gotten out to a slower start during training camp, but they are proving that come September, they are going to be just fine.
In six of his seven seasons in the NFL, Brown has recorded more than 1,000 receiving yards, but now, he's got one of the best deep-ball passers throwing to him. It's a recipe for success, and since the pads have come on, the two have connected a lot more.
With that, Maye highlighted how the two are continuing to grow, learning each other's play styles.
"You feel the connectivity building now," Maye said after Friday's practice. "I think that’s the biggest thing with a player like him and a lot of players that we have. It’s my job to try to give them the ball when they
want and like when I feel like they’re open.
“I’m just trying to build a relationship with me and him. I think you’re just seeing it get better every day. And I think that’s the best thing about training camp, is what you use it for. I’m blessed to play with a player like him and looking forward to giving the rock and see him do his thing.”
So, what are they doing to help the chemistry grow?
"Non-stop communication," he said. "Just hearing what he thinks, and he's listening to me, and we're just trying to get on the same page."
And Maye knows what Brown is capable of when he gets the ball, so it's all about giving him those opportunities.
“Just giving more chances to him, I think you see with the ball in his hands, what he can do,” Maye said. “I’m not going to shy away from it. That’s how I play. I’m going to keep going at it, and it could be the fifth play in a row I’m going to give him the rock”
