The Miami Dolphins claimed former New England Patriots cornerback Marcellas Dial off waivers on Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, amid a busy day of roster claims across the NFL.
The Patriots selected Dial with the No. 180 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He played in all 17 games for New England that season, one of which he started, and recorded a forced fumble and 12 total tackles on the year. He did not play in a game in the 2025 NFL season after suffering a torn ACL in training camp.
The Patriots did not keep Dial on their 53-man roster for the upcoming 2026 season. They move forward with a cornerback room led by Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis III and Marcus Jones, as well as Karon Prunty, Charles Woods and Channing Canada behind
them.
Dial now joins a Dolphins defense that includes Ethan Bonner, JuJu Brents, A.J. Green III, Chris Johnson and Jason Marshall Jr. at the cornerback slot.
