New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez commented on the midfield moment that he shared with eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro Jalen Ramsey after the Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ramsey could be heard telling Gonzalez that he "earned every penny" of his contract extension with the Patriots
. Gonzalez then asked for a jersey swap, and the star cornerback quickly obliged. In an exclusive interview, Patriots Wire's Jordy McElroy asked Gonzalez about the on-field interaction that he shared with Ramsey a few weeks back.
"It's real cool," said Gonzalez. "He was somebody I've always watched growing up. I always watched his highlights. I always studied his game. To be able to hear it, to be able to share the field
with him is pretty cool. He's been in Dallas. He's in that area, so we've been able to link up and work on our game. It's real cool to hear from him, though, for sure."
Before suffering a shoulder injury, Gonzalez was arguably playing the best football of any cornerback in the NFL.
He is currently on the mend and looking to get back to dominating on the back end for the Patriots' defense. That moment with Ramsey will likely stick with him the rest of the way. A compliment of that magnitude coming from a future Hall of Famer isn't something that comes around often.
At only 24 years old, Gonzalez is simply soaking it all in.
