The SEC was wildly unpredictable the first eight weeks of the season, but with Week 9 only having five games in the conference, there was little to no chaos.
The Florida-Georgia rivalry was business as usual for Kirby Smart and his program, extending their winning streak against the Gators to six games.
Texas is finding its footing, winning two straight after the hiccup against the Gators.
After starting SEC play 0-3, South Carolina has now won three straight and could make the college football playoff race intriguing if they keep this up.
LSU and Alabama both had the week off, setting up an instant classic in Week 10
Nine weeks in, the SEC still seems to be thinning out at the top, with four weeks remaining. Here is where all 16 teams stand in the latest
Gators Wire SEC power rankings.
1. Georgia Bulldogs
- Record: 7-1 (5-1 SEC)
- Result: 27-8 victory over Florida Gators
- Up Next: Ole Miss Rebels
Georgia remains firmly planted at the top after taking care of business against Florida. The Bulldogs extended their winning streak over the Gators to six games with a 27-8 win and still look like the SEC's most complete team despite their hiccup against Auburn.
2. Kentucky Wildcats
- Record: 7-1 (5-1 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: Tennessee Volunteers
Kentucky stays put at No. 2 after an idle week. The Wildcats have quietly remained one of the SEC's best teams all season, but they'll return to action in an important matchup against Tennessee. A win would help secure Kentucky's place in the conference title game and College Football Playoff conversations.
3. LSU
- Record: 6-2 (3-2 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: Alabama Crimson Tide
LSU moves up one spot despite being on a bye, benefiting from Florida's loss to Georgia. Now the Tigers face another test in one of their biggest games of the season, as Alabama visits in a matchup that could have major implications for both programs.
4. Alabama Crimson Tide
- 2025 Record: 6-2 (4-2 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: LSU Tigers
Like LSU, Alabama moves up following Florida's loss despite having the week off. The Crimson Tide have an opportunity to make another major statement against the No. 15 Tigers in Week 10. With both teams sitting at two losses overall, there isn't much room for error moving forward.
5. Texas Longhorns
- Record: 6-2 (3-2 SEC)
- Result: 31-3 victory over Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Up Next: Missouri Tigers
Texas rises to No. 5 as they continue to work their way back up the rankings. Since falling to Florida, the Longhorns have responded with two straight wins, including a dominant 31-3 victory over Mississippi State. Texas appears to be finding its footing again, but will need a win over Missouri to sustain it.
6. Florida Gators
- 2025 Record: 5-3 (3-3 SEC)
- Result: 27-8 loss to Georgia Bulldogs
- Up Next: Oklahoma Sooners
Florida falls three spots after its momentum from the Texas upset disappeared against Georgia. The Gators' defense showed encouraging signs, but an inconsistent offense and self-inflicted mistakes made it difficult to keep pace with the Bulldogs. With Florida's margins now thin, they have a chance to bounce back against an Oklahoma team searching for more answers than they do.
7. Ole Miss Rebels
- 2025 Record: 5-2 (3-2 SEC)
- Result: 45-15 victory over Auburn Tigers
- Up Next: Georgia Bulldogs
Ole Miss handled business against Auburn with a dominant 45-15 victory and remains at No. 7. The Rebels have quietly put together a solid season with two quality losses to Florida and Texas, but their biggest test yet awaits. A roadblock in the form of No. 1 Georgia will show just how serious Ole Miss is as a contender.
8. Missouri Tigers
- Record: 6-2 (3-2 SEC)
- Result: 34-10 victory over Arkansas Razorbacks
- Up Next: Texas Longhorns
Missouri remains at No. 8 after cruising past Arkansas, 34-10. The Tigers continue to hang around the upper half of the SEC and already have a convincing win over Florida. Now they'll get a surging Texas team in a matchup that could significantly shake up the College Football Playoffs.
9. South Carolina Gamecocks
- Record: 5-3 (3-3 SEC)
- Result: 42-25 victory over Oklahoma Sooners
- Up Next: Texas A&M Aggies
No team has changed its outlook more over the past three weeks than South Carolina, and that's how they rose to No. 9. After opening SEC play 0-3, the Gamecocks have rattled off three straight conference wins, most recently a 42-25 victory over Oklahoma. South Carolina is suddenly one of the hottest teams in the SEC and could become an interesting factor down the stretch.
10. Tennessee Volunteers
- Record: 5-2 (2-2 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: Kentucky Wildcats
Tennessee drops one spot after its bye, largely because of South Carolina's surge. The Volunteers return to action with a major opportunity against No. 2 Kentucky. A win would immediately push Tennessee back up the rankings to continue to shake up the SEC race.
11. Oklahoma Sooners
- Record: 4-4 (2-3 SEC)
- Result: 42-25 loss to South Carolina Gamecocks
- Up Next: Florida Gators
Oklahoma continues to slide after suffering a 42-25 loss to South Carolina. The Sooners have reached the point where their early-season promise is fading quickly, making their upcoming matchup against Florida important for their program as they try to regain momentum and solidify a bowl game.
12. Auburn Tigers
- Record: 4-4 (2-3 SEC)
- Result: 45-15 loss to Ole Miss Rebels
- Up Next: Arkansas Razorbacks
Auburn moves up despite suffering a lopsided loss to Ole Miss, largely because the bottom of the conference continues to struggle. The Tigers were outmatched in the 45-15 defeat and haven't shown enough consistency to climb much higher.
13. Texas A&M Aggies
- 2025 Record: 4-4 (1-4 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: South Carolina Gamecocks
Texas A&M moves up one spot following its bye week. The Aggies haven't had much success in conference play, but they'll return with an opportunity to slow down one of the SEC's hottest teams in South Carolina. A win would provide some much-needed momentum heading into the final stretch.
14. Arkansas Razorbacks
- Record: 3-5 (1-4 SEC)
- Result: 34-10 loss to Missouri Tigers
- Up Next: Auburn Tigers
Arkansas moves up one spot despite another difficult SEC showing, this time falling 34-10 to Missouri. The Razorbacks have struggled to build momentum in conference play and are quickly running out of chances to turn their season around. Auburn represents one of their more manageable remaining chances to do so.
15. Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Record: 4-4 (2-4 SEC)
- Result: 31-3 loss to Texas Longhorns
- Up Next: Vanderbilt Commodores
Mississippi State tumbles toward the bottom to No. 15 after a 31-3 blowout loss to Texas. Despite two conference victories, the Bulldogs will be without starting quarterback Kamario Taylor for the rest of the year. A matchup with winless-in-SEC-play Vanderbilt gives Mississippi State an immediate opportunity to prove the Texas loss was an aberration.
16. Vanderbilt Commodores
- Record: 3-5 (0-5 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: Mississippi State Bulldogs
Vanderbilt remains at the bottom. The Commodores remain winless in SEC play, but their upcoming matchup against the Bulldogs gives them their best opportunity yet to finally break through in conference play.
