Florida’s second straight loss cost the Gators their spot in the AP Top 25.
Florida dropped out of the rankings Sunday after a 38-19 home loss to South Carolina, completing a two-week fall from inside the top 10 to No. 16 and now out of the poll entirely. The Gators still received nine votes, leaving them seventh among teams outside the top 25.
The fall comes after Florida opened the season 4-0 and climbed as high as No. 8 following its win over Ole Miss. Back-to-back losses to Missouri and South Carolina erased that momentum quickly, with the Gators now sitting at 4-2 overall and 2-2 in SEC play.
Florida was one of three teams to fall out of the poll this week, joining Oregon and Pittsburgh. Kentucky, Wake Forest and Northwestern entered the rankings,
while Georgia moved to No. 1 after beating Alabama 20-17. Notre Dame climbed to No. 2, Miami remained No. 3 and Ohio State moved to No. 4.
