There isn't much history to unpack between Florida and Campbell because Saturday's matchup will be the first meeting between the two programs. Week 2 also marks the first time Campbell will face an SEC opponent.
Campbell restarted its football program in 2008 after a 58-year hiatus and currently competes at the FCS level in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Camels moved into the CAA in 2023 after previously playing in the Big South and Pioneer Football League.
Florida has rarely stumbled against FCS competition. The Gators' last defeat to a lower-division team came in 2013 when Georgia Southern stunned Florida, 26-20 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Eagles notoriously pulled off the upset without completing a pass and rushed for 429 yards
on 54 attempts.
Campbell will serve as Florida's final tuneup before preparing for a trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium in a matchup with Auburn to open SEC play. Their first game against a top 25 team comes in Week 4 when the Gators host the Rebels in Gainesville. Florida has five teams ranked in the AP Top 25 remaining on its schedule in Ole Miss (No. 9), Missouri (No. 23), Texas (No. 4), Georgia (No. 2), and Oklahoma (No. 11).
The Jon Sumrall era began with last week's blowout win over Florida Atlantic. The Gators amassed 600-plus yards of total offense and notched 30 first downs while forcing three turnovers. Saturday offers another opportunity to sharpen the details before conference play begins.
