Florida football suffered its first loss of the Jon Sumrall era in Week 5 with a 45-17 defeat at the hands of the Missouri Tigers at Faurot Field on Saturday. Nothing seemed to go right for the Gators, whose offense was stymied and defense exposed by the opposition's superb all-around performance.
It was Mizzou's second-straight win in the series and third of the last four meetings — all coming in Columbia — between the two SEC foes.
Following college football's fifth official week of play, USA TODAY Sports writer Paul Myerberg released his re-ranking of all 138 FBS teams. In it, Florida fell 10 spots and now sits just outside the top 15 at No. 16 — between No. 15 Duke and No. 17 Tennessee.
Meanwhile, the Gators are ranked No. 15 in the US LBM
Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the AP Top 25.
The SEC still has eight schools in USA TODAY Sports' re-rank top 25 this week, with top-ranked Georgia holding onto the headline spot, along with Texas (No. 2), Alabama (No. 6) and Ole Miss (No. 7) among the top 10. LSU (No. 12), Missouri (No. 13), Florida (No. 16) and Tennessee (No. 17) round out the rest of the top-ranked teams. Mississippi State sits just outside the group at No. 27.
Next up, Florida returns to the Swamp to host South Carolina for its annual homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 10. The action kicks off early with a 12:45 p.m. ET start time and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.
