Florida football spent Week 8 on the couch, but the Gators still managed to move up in The Athletic’s weekly SEC vibes rankings.
Florida climbed from No. 4 to No. 3 in Seth Emerson’s latest rankings, trailing only Kentucky and LSU after a bye week that allowed the Gators to continue enjoying the momentum from their road win over Texas.
That victory looks a little better now, too. Texas bounced back from its loss to Florida by beating Ole Miss, 34-27, and jumped from No. 16 to No. 5 in the vibes rankings.
Emerson believes Florida enters Saturday’s rivalry matchup against Georgia in a favorable position mentally, describing the Gators as the looser team and “playing with house money for the game and the season.”
That’s a significant change from where
things stood earlier this month. Florida lost consecutive games to Missouri and South Carolina before rebounding with a 27-24 win at Texas. The Gators enter Georgia week at 5-2 overall and 3-2 in SEC play, with a chance to become bowl eligible and add another major win to their résumé.
Georgia, meanwhile, checks in at just No. 9 in the vibes rankings despite a 6-1 record. Emerson pointed toward the angst surrounding the Bulldogs’ fan base while acknowledging Georgia remains one of the teams best positioned to compete for a national championship.
Kentucky held onto the top spot after beating Vanderbilt, while LSU surged five positions to No. 2 following a 38-17 win at Auburn. South Carolina made the week’s other major leap, rising from No. 12 to No. 4 after upsetting Tennessee.
Florida has already used one upset to dramatically change the mood surrounding Jon Sumrall’s first season. Beating Georgia in Atlanta would take those vibes to another level.
