The Gator Nation got some great news on Sunday as the football program earned a commitment from the top wide receiver in the 2027 cycle, Easton Royal. Florida flipped the five-star prospect from the Texas Longhorns, to whom he had pledged prior.
The 5-foot-11.5-inch, 214-pound pass-catcher out of New Orleans (Louisiana) Brother Martin had been committed to the Horns since November, but both Florida and LSU had spent the last several months in hot pursuit of the blue-chip recruit. A plethora of programs had also pined for the Bayou State product, but the Gators emerged on top after his latest visit during homecoming weekend.
"It's just way more energy in the air, completely different philosophy, energy in the building, their offense is completely different,"
Royal told Swamp247. "It's a lot of new things that they have to offer that makes this staff so great."
Wide receivers coach Marcus Davis, who Royal said "is one of the realest coaches that I've ever met in the recruiting process," also played a significant role in luring him to Gainesville. His game day visit to watch Florida prevail over Ole Miss in the Swamp was also key in convincing the high school senior to join the Orange and Blue.
"It was a good time," he noted. "The crowd and the fans were all electric. It was more than I expected."
Additionally, offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner convinced Royal that his talents were both desired and needed on Florida's roster moving forward.
"That's the main piece that they've been trying to instill in me since the first time I came on campus," said Royal. "Eric Singleton — he'll be gone, and they'll need me to come in and immediately replace him to be able to stretch the defense, to run jet sweeps, run screens as well, to be the missing piece to the offense."
Easton Royal's recruiting summary
Royal is ranked No. 5 overall and No. 1 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite and the Rivals industry ranking. He holds 31 scholarship offers, including 11 from fellow SEC schools.
The five-star prospect is a "dynamic playmaker down the field and as a run-after-catch threat in the screen and short-to-intermediate game," says 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks. He "varies speeds but consistently plays with urgency to maximize acceleration and explosion," and "deftly combines smooth movement patterns with quick-twitch athleticism."
Brooks also notes that Royal is a "convicted blocker in the run game" who "plays outside, in the slot, and even from the backfield," and "projects as a possible high-major impact player who could become an NFL draft candidate."
