For the second week in a row, Florida football suffered a blowout loss to an SEC opponent it was expected to beat. This time, it was the South Carolina Gamecocks who embarrassed the Gators on their homecoming weekend, doubling them up, 38-19.
"I'm frustrated with every part of what we did today," head coach Jon Sumrall said after the game
. "So many things to clean up. Just not a good football performance by us."Following the Week 6 loss, Florida fell out of the latest US LBM Coaches Poll top 25, dropping from 672 to a paltry 32 votes. It is the first time this fall that the Gators were omitted from the top 25 since Week 2 after their win over Campbell.
In this week's rankings, UF's demotion reduced the SEC's tally to nine schools among the top
25, headlined by top-ranked Georgia, followed by Texas (No. 6), Alabama (No. 7), Ole Miss (No. 10), Missouri (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 14), Kentucky (No. 17), Mississippi State (No. 19) and LSU (No. 21). Oklahoma and its 50 votes along with Florida are the other conference teams appearing on the ballot.
Next up, the Gators return to the road to face the Longhorns in Austin on Saturday, Oct. 17. The action kicks off early with a noon p.m. ET start time and the game will be televised on ABC.
