Florida's College Football Playoff aspirations took a major hit in Week 5 after getting punched in the face by Missouri in Columbia, 45-17. Through the first four games, the Gators looked nearly unstoppable, but the Tigers had all the answers against their SEC foe on Saturday afternoon.
However, despite the embarrassing defeat that exposed the Orange and Blue on both sides of the ball, CBS Sports writer Brad Crawford still included Florida among the field of 12 for the CFP in his bowl game projections, placing the Gators in the No. 10 seed. That lines them up for a first-round matchup with defending national champion Indiana.
"The Gators were humbled at Missouri, but not selling all of my stock just yet on Florida after failing to show on the
road," Crawford states. "Jon Sumrall will need to fix some of this team's problems defensively, but the win over Ole Miss will age well, and there's still a clear path to 10 wins if the Gators can split upcoming matchups with Texas and Georgia. If that doesn't happen, welcome to the logjam that is 9-3 in the SEC."
Florida and Indiana have faced off just once on the collegiate gridiron 110 years ago in Bloomington, where the Hoosiers scored a 14-3 victory over the Gators.
Sumrall and Co. continue their endeavor to reach the postseason on Saturday against South Carolina in the Swamp for Florida's homecoming game. The action kicks off early with a 12:45 p.m. ET start time and will be televised on the SEC Network.
