Florida football could be near full strength entering Saturday's rivalry matchup with No. 3 Georgia as transfer wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr.'s health is trending in a positive direction. The Georgia Tech transfer suffered a high ankle sprain during the Gators' season opener against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 5.
"I wouldn't say full speed, but I'm close," Singleton said Tuesday. "Very close."
The 5-foot-10-inch, 182-pound, Alexander, Georgia native, has missed two games entirely and played through lingering discomfort in four others. However, the Gators' bye week provided valuable recovery time ahead of its high-stakes SEC showdown in Atlanta.
Singleton showed encouraging progress against Texas, leading the Gators with six receptions for 32 yards
and adding eight rushing yards. Offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner praised Singleton's explosiveness, noting that his speed is beginning to return to form.
“There’s definitely glimpses," Faulkner said. "I give the kid credit. I mean, it’s tough to come back from a high-ankle sprain and really be the same. And you know, you see him still fighting through it every time he kind of gets tackled or rolled up; it does bother him."
With Vernell Brown III also expected to return, Florida could field a healthy receiving corps for the first time since Week 1.
