Florida got out of Week 1 relatively healthy. On Monday, head coach Jon Sumrall painted a clearer picture of the Gators' injury report heading into Week 2 against Campbell.
The most significant update involves wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr., who left Saturday's game after just seven snaps. Singleton laid a block on his final play and came up with a bum ankle after getting rolled up. In his Monday press conference, Sumrall said Singleton is "highly questionable" for this weekend.
Defensive end Emmanuel Oyebadejo suffered a similar injury, leading Sumrall to place the same designation of questionable. Sumrall did not offer a firm timetable for either player’s return.
There was more encouraging news elsewhere on the injury report. Tight end Evan
Chieca continues to increase his workload after entering the season questionable.
“Chieca is doing more and more,” Sumrall said. “We’ll see what that means for this weekend, but he’s back doing more. He’s close.”
Running back Evan Pryor is also expected to have a chance to return this week, although Sumrall stopped short of declaring him available. Pryor only played seven snaps before being removed from the game with a hip injury.
“He should be back this week, but I don’t know,” he said. “We’ll see how he responds.”
Offensive lineman Eagan Boyer appears even closer to returning. Sumrall said Boyer was active at practice and could be a full participant as soon as Tuesday
“Eagan should be back this week,” he said. “He was at practice today and active. I think tomorrow is going to be full-go, but I’ll check with Paul. I’ll know today at 2:30 when I meet with Paul again about all our injury-report stuff.”
Receiver Davian Groce is expected to remain sidelined for at least another week with a back strain.
“Davian, I think, will be down for at least another week,” he said. “It’s nothing major, just a little bit of a back strain.”
The biggest names to watch this week are Singleton and Emmanuel, while Chieca, Pryor and Boyer all appear to be trending toward increased availability.
