Florida football suffered its first loss of the Jon Sumrall era on Saturday with a 45-17 defeat in Missouri's homecoming game at Faurot Field. The Gators' once-vaunted offense was held in check while their shaky defense was completely exposed by the Tigers' playcalling, leading to the embarrassing defeat.
Following Week 5's collegiate gridiron action, CBS Sports writer Chip Patterson published his latest re-rank of all 138 FBS teams, which saw Florida fall six spots to No. 14. The Gators now sit between No. 13 Oregon and No. 15 Missouri — the team that just shellacked them on their home turf.
Compare that with Florida's rankings in the two major polls: the Gators are ranked No. 15 in the US LBM Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the AP Top 25 after five
weeks of play.
SEC schools in CBS Sports' re-rank top 25 after Week 5
The SEC still has nine schools among the top 25 in CBS Sports' re-rank this week, with Texas and Georgia, respectively, remaining in the top two spots. They are followed by Alabama (No. 4), LSU (No. 9), Ole Miss (No. 10), Florida (No. 14), Missouri (No. 15), Tennessee (No. 17) and Mississippi State (No. 18). Kentucky is still on the outside looking in at No. 27.
"Alabama's rise keeps the SEC well-represented even as Florida drops outside the top 10 following a shockingly uncompetitive performance at Missouri, and the conference is poised with three of the top four, five of the top 10 and nine of the top 20 teams in our rankings," Patterson offers.
