Florida wide receiver Vernell Brown III is unlikely to play against Oklahoma this weekend after aggravating a knee injury, according to Gators Online's Zach Abolverdi.
Brown, who has been dealing with a posterior cruciate ligament sprain, aggravated the injury last week and underwent an arthrocentesis procedure to drain fluid from his knee, along with a cortisone injection, according to Abolverdi. Brown had his knee drained a second time on Monday and received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection.
On3’s Pete Nakos also reported the injury update.
The latest setback puts Brown’s availability in doubt as Florida prepares to face Oklahoma following its 27-8 loss to Georgia. The Gators are looking to rebound offensively after struggling to sustain
drives against the Bulldogs.
Brown was listed as doubtful on Wednesday's initial SEC availability report after missing Florida's last four games. He originally suffered a Grade 1 PCL sprain against Ole Miss in Week 4.
Brown’s potential absence would leave Florida without one of its young receiving options at a critical point in the season. Dallas Wilson, Eric Singleton Jr. and the rest of the receiving corps could be called upon to handle additional opportunities if Brown is unable to play.
No confirmed timetable exists for Brown’s return, and the report does not indicate whether he will miss additional games beyond the Oklahoma matchup.
