Four-star 2027 center Kamsi Awaka recently announced his top five schools, including Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, UConn and Arizona. Since the Gators entered the mix for Awaka's recruitment earlier this summer, they have quickly emerged as a top school for him.
The 6-foot-10-inch, 250-pound center at Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey, received his offer from Florida in July.
"I had a Zoom with them, and thought they were all great people," Awaka told Swamp247.
Awaka has also been in contact with head coach Todd Golden.
"He says he would love to have me be a Gator," Awaka said.
Florida's use of its post players really stood out to Awaka and is what made the program a top option.
"I like the way they use their big men, and obviously they have
a lot of high-profile bigs on their team currently," Awaka said.
"Their team is really good. They're looked at as one of the teams that can win it all this year. They won it all in 2025 with some the same guys on this year's team."
With a 7-foot-4 wingspan, Awaka is a massive interior presence who brings physicality, a strong motor and a willingness to do the dirty work. He projects as an immediate impact rebounder, defender and screener, highlighted by his 3.9 offensive rebounds per game.
Awaka's game is not predicated on his offensive ability, but he is a solid finisher around the rim and can make the right passes. Defensively, he moves well for his size, consistently finds himself in the right position, and uses his 3.3 blocks per game and size to deter opponents around the rim.
Awaka plans to visit all of his top five teams before making a decision and currently sees an even playing field when it comes to his recruitment.
His older brother, Tobe Awaka, spent his final two collegiate seasons at Arizona before getting signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Bulls.

Awaka is ranked No. 60 overall and No. 8 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the Rivals industry ranking has him at Nos. 65 and 8, respectively. On ESPN, Awaka is also ranked No. 77 in the country and is the No. 8 center.
Rivals' recruiting prediction machine puts Maryland in the lead, with the Terrapins holding a 19.5% chance to land him. Georgia Tech (17.1%), Florida (14.6%), Arizona (12.2%), and Fordham (6.1%) fill out his projected top five teams.
