The SEC continues to prove that nothing in this conference is predictable.
The first month of the season brought plenty of surprises, but Week 5 may have delivered the biggest one yet. Florida entered the weekend undefeated and seemingly back in the national championship spotlight after defeating Ole Miss, only to come back down to earth in a 45-17 loss to Missouri.
The Tigers seized the opportunity and made a statement of their own, emerging as another team capable of shaking up the SEC race. Georgia and Alabama continued their undefeated starts with convincing victories, setting up an all-time classic between two of the conference's top teams.
Meanwhile, Kentucky and Tennessee survived their matchups to stay within arm's length of the conference's
top teams
With five weeks of results to account for, let's see how the pecking order changes. Here's where all 16 SEC teams stand in our latest Gators Wire power rankings.
1. Texas Longhorns
- Record: 4-0 (1-0 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: Oklahoma Sooners
Texas remains atop our SEC power rankings after a Week 5 bye. The Longhorns have yet to lose and remain one of the conference's most complete teams through the season's opening month. Now, Texas turns its attention to a big rivalry game, the Red River rivalry matchup against Oklahoma.
2. Georgia Bulldogs
- Record: 5-0 (3-0 SEC)
- Result: 38-14 victory over Vanderbilt Commodores
- Up Next: Alabama Crimson Tide
Georgia remains No. 2 in our SEC power rankings after taking care of business against Vanderbilt, 38-14. The Bulldogs improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, continuing an impressive start.
3. Alabama Crimson Tide
- 2025 Record: 5-0 (3-0 SEC)
- Result: 56-23 victory over Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Up Next: Georgia Bulldogs
Alabama remains No. 3 in our SEC power rankings following a dominant 56-23 victory over Mississippi State. The Crimson Tide have looked like one of the conference's most dangerous teams through five games, and their offense exploded once again in Week 5. Alabama's undefeated record will be tested next week in a heavyweight matchup against Georgia.
4. Florida Gators
- 2025 Record: 4-1 (2-1 SEC)
- Result: 45-17 loss to Missouri Tigers
- Up Next: South Carolina Gamecocks
Florida remains No. 4 despite suffering its first loss of the season in an embarrassing 45-17 defeat to Missouri. The Gators looked nothing like the team that boat raced teams to a 4-0 start, as their explosive offense was stifled and their defense struggled to contain the Tigers.
Florida's first four weeks, coupled with the conglomerate that is the SEC, are enough to prevent a major fall for now, but the Orange and Blue will need a convincing response against South Carolina to prove the Missouri loss was an anomaly.
5. Ole Miss Rebels
- 2025 Record: 3-1 (1-1 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: Vanderbilt Commodores
Ole Miss remains at No. 5 after a much-needed bye following its 52-28 loss to Florida in Week 4. The Rebels are still firmly in the upper half of the conference, but their loss in Gainesville leaves questions about where they stand among the SEC's legitimate contenders.
6. LSU
- Record: 4-1 (1-1 SEC)
- Result: 63-14 victory over McNeese State Cowboys
- Up Next: Kentucky Wildcats
LSU holds steady at No. 6 following a dominant 63-14 victory over McNeese State. The Tigers did exactly what was expected against an overmatched opponent and improved to 4-1 on the season.
7. Missouri Tigers
- Record: 4-1 (1-1 SEC)
- Result: 45-17 victory over Florida Gators
- Up Next: Texas A&M Aggies
No team made a bigger statement in Week 5 than Missouri. The Tigers jump three spots from No. 10 after dismantling previously undefeated and top-10 Florida, 45-17. Missouri controlled the game on both sides of the ball and handed the Gators their first loss in convincing fashion, putting itself right back into the SEC conversation.
8. Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Record: 4-1 (2-1 SEC)
- Result: 56-23 loss to Alabama Crimson Tide
- Up Next: BYE
Mississippi State drops one spot after suffering its first loss of the season, falling to Alabama, 56-23. The Bulldogs' 4-0 start was one of the SEC's early surprises, but Alabama showed there is still a sizable gap between Mississippi State and the conference's elite.
9. Kentucky Wildcats
- Record: 4-1 (2-1 SEC)
- Result: 35-34 victory over South Carolina Gamecocks
- Up Next: LSU Tigers
Kentucky drops one spot despite escaping South Carolina with a dramatic 35-34 victory. The Wildcats improved to 4-1 and 2-1 in SEC play, but needing every possession to survive a two-win Gamecocks team keeps them from climbing this week. Kentucky will have an opportunity to make a much bigger statement when LSU comes to town.
10. Tennessee Volunteers
- Record: 4-1 (1-1 SEC)
- Result: 24-14 victory over Auburn Tigers
- Up Next: Arkansas Razorbacks
Tennessee falls one spot in our rankings despite earning a 24-14 victory over Auburn. The Volunteers are 4-1 and have responded well since their lone loss. Hopefully they can continue to build on the momentum next week against the inferior Arkansas Razorbacks.
11. Auburn Tigers
- Record: 3-2 (1-2 SEC)
- Result: 24-14 loss to Tennessee Volunteers
- Up Next: BYE
Auburn remains at No. 11 after falling to Tennessee, 24-14, for its second loss of the season. After a promising start, the Tigers have now dropped two SEC games and are losing ground in a crowded conference. As Auburn enters its bye week, it will need to find answers fast before it gets left behind in the SEC.
12. Texas A&M Aggies
- 2025 Record: 3-2 (1-2 SEC)
- Result: 34-7 victory over Arkansas Razorbacks
- Up Next: Missouri Tigers
Texas A&M moves up one spot following a convincing 34-7 performance over Arkansas. The Aggies have had an inconsistent start, but dominating a conference opponent was a much-needed step in the right direction.
13. Oklahoma Sooners
- Record: 2-2 (0-1 SEC)
- Result: BYE
- Up Next: Texas Longhorns
Oklahoma slides down one spot during its Week 5 bye. At 2-2, the Sooners desperately need a change in direction, and there may be no bigger opportunity than the one waiting next week, as they take on undefeated Texas in the Red River rivalry to keep their season alive.
14. South Carolina Gamecocks
- Record: 2-3 (0-3 SEC)
- Result: 35-34 loss to Kentucky Wildcats
- Up Next: Florida Gators
South Carolina remains at No. 14 after suffering a heartbreaking 35-34 loss to Kentucky. The Gamecocks led by double figures at one point and seemed on track to earn their first SEC victory, but instead fell to 0-3 in conference play. South Carolina has been competitive over the last two weeks, but these performances need to turn into victories, or there may be changes in Columbia.
15. Vanderbilt Commodores
- Record: 3-2 (0-2 SEC)
- Result: 38-14 loss to Georgia Bulldogs
- Up Next: Ole Miss Rebels
Vanderbilt remains at No. 15 following a 38-14 loss to Georgia. The Commodores have now dropped both SEC contests after starting the season with three questionable victories. After losing many starters from the previous season, Vandy must look to find consistency as things don't get much easier in Week 6.
16. Arkansas Razorbacks
- Record: 2-3 (0-1 SEC)
- Result: 34-7 loss to Texas A&M
- Up Next: Tennessee Volunteers
Arkansas remains at the bottom of our SEC power rankings after a rough 34-7 loss to Texas A&M. The Razorbacks fell to 2-3 and failed to generate much against an Aggies team that had been searching for consistency.
