The 2026-27 college basketball season is fast approaching, and many of the biggest offseason storylines have been off the court. Instead, lawsuits, injunctions, and eligibility controversies have controlled much of the discussion.
Several of the preliminary injunctions are still under review, including one for Florida's Denzel Aberdeen, who awaits his official eligibility announcement. Though many preseason projections are in limbo as the legal system slowly churns, expectations don't diverge.
ESPN recently gave its way-too-early top 25 ranking for the upcoming basketball season. The Gators prepare for the final stretch of the offseason with plenty of expectations and questions: How will the Gators' roster ultimately look when the season tips
off, and will it be enough to position them for a March Madness title run?
Even with the former Kentucky guard's eligibility in the air, Florida remains at the top of the mountain, ranked No. 1.
Aberdeen's eligibility as a rotational player may be more important than ever, as he would likely assume a highly productive role as a starter. Last season as a starter with the Wildcats, he averaged 13.5 points and shot 36% from 3 — numbers that would represent an upgrade over Xaivian Lee's contributions last season.
Currently, the projected lineup for the Gators would be Boogie Fland, Urban Klavzar, Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon, and Rueben Chinyelu. Clearly, the starting five is formidable enough to be the best team in the country; however, adding a dynamic two-way guard like Aberdeen would pay dividends in their success in the long run.
