Florida football opened its SEC schedule with a win for the first time since 2023 thanks to a 44-39 victory over Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday. The Week 3 victory also gave the Gators their first 3-0 start since 2019.
Not a shabby way to open up the Jon Sumrall era. Things are looking pretty bright for the Orange and Blue as the program enters the thick of the conference slate.
Following the third official week of the college football season, The Athletic's Chris Vannini updated his re-ranking of all 138 FBS schools and gave Florida a major promotion in the standings. After bouncing back and forth between Nos. 30 and 31 between the preseason and Week 2, he now has the Gators up 15 spots to No. 16, between No. 15 USC and No. 17 Utah.
SEC schools in The Athletic's college football re-rank top 25
The Southeastern Conference once again has eight schools among the top 25 of The Athletic's re-rank, with Texas leading the way at No. 1, immediately followed by Ole Miss at No. 2, along with Georgia (No. 6), Alabama (No. 8) and LSU (No. 9) in the top 10. The rest of the schools representing the league are Mississippi State (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 14) and Florida (No. 16)
Kentucky sits just outside the group at No. 26, followed by Texas A&M at No. 27 and Missouri at No. 29, who are also within striking distance.
