The Gator Nation was let down for the second straight week with Florida football's 38-19 loss to South Carolina on homecoming. The embarrassing defeat in the Swamp came a week after a blowout loss on the road at Missouri, ostensibly ending the Orange and Blue's College Football Playoff aspirations.
"I'm frustrated with every part of what we did today," head coach Jon Sumrall said after the game. "Just not a good football performance by us."
Following college football's Week 6 action, ESPN's Bill Connelly released his SP+ update, with Florida falling to No. 32 with an 11.0 rating. That represents a 12-spot drop from last week's ranking and a 3.1-point decrease from the previous rating.
Looking deeper into the numbers, Florida's offensive SP+ of 35.1
landed at No. 18 in the nation, marking a 2.4-point and an eight-spot drop from the last update. Meanwhile, the defense checks in at No. 59 with a 24.6 rating — a seven-spot drop and a 3.8-point increase — while special teams are now ranked first in the country with a 0.1-point increase to 0.5.
With the Gators falling out, the SEC now has seven schools in the SP+ rankings' top 25 — one less than last week — headlined by second-ranked Georgia, followed by Texas (No. 6), Alabama (No. 8) and LSU (No. 9) among the top 10. The remaining top-25 representatives are Missouri (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 15) and Ole Miss (No. 16).
