While navigating your fantasy football draft, there will be several decisions at key positions, especially early, that could prove to be major head-scratchers. Among those is the debate between Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and Minnesota Vikings wideout Justin Jefferson.
Lamb and Jefferson are two of the premier playmakers at the wide receiver position in the NFL, but each faces different question marks heading into the 2026 NFL season.
CeeDee Lamb's fantasy football outlook for 2026
For Lamb, the topic of George Pickens immediately comes to mind, as he thrived last season alongside Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott. However, Lamb still racked up 1,077 yards and 75 catches, along with three touchdowns over his 14 games played. While the touchdown total was the lowest of his career,
it's widely expected that the number will increase this season.
Lamb remains one of Prescott's favorite targets, and the emergence of Pickens should help to open up the field even more in 2026, potentially setting up a big year for the Cowboys star.
Justin Jefferson's fantasy football outlook for 2026
Interestingly, Lamb and Jefferson finished in eerily similar spots regarding statistics last season. Jefferson still topped the 1,000-yard mark, finishing with 1,048 yards on 84 receptions. However, his touchdown number dropped from 10 in 2024 to just two last season.
The key difference is that Jefferson's drop-off in terms of touchdowns largely stemmed from play at the quarterback position. Jefferson received 141 targets last season, but did so with a quarterback trio of J.J. McCarthy, Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer.
Between that trio, Vikings quarterbacks finished the year with 17 passing touchdowns and 21 interceptions, totaling less than 3,200 passing yards. To sum things up as simply as possible, running back Cam Akers had more passing touchdowns (one) than Brosmer (zero).
CeeDee Lamb or Justin Jefferson: Who to draft in fantasy football?
There's a fair argument to be made for both Lamb and Jefferson as the better pick based on their ADP (average draft position). But virtually across the entire fantasy football landscape, these two are back-to-back, so if you draft in the late first and early second rounds, there's a chance you could face this decision.
One key difference between the two players from last year is the Vikings' decision to start Kyler Murray at quarterback.
Kevin O'Connell and company made the call early in training camp to hand the offense to Murray rather than McCarthy, a move that should be vital to Jefferson's success.
In seasons when Murray played at least 14 games (2024, 2021, 2020 and 2019), here's a look at how the wide receivers fared each year:
- 2024: Marvin Harrison Jr. (rookie) 885 yards, 8 touchdowns
- 2021: Christian Kirk, A.J. Green, DeAndre Hopkins: 2,402 combined yards, 16 combined touchdowns
- 2020: DeAndre Hopkins: 1,407 yards, 6 TDs
- Christian Kirk: 621 yards, 6 TDs
- 2019 (Murray's rookie year): Larry Fitzgerald: 804 yards, 4 TDs
- Christian Kirk: 709 yards, 3 TDs
Looking beyond Murray's rookie season, it's apparent that he can not only get the ball to the team's top players, but also find them in the end zone. The touchdown regression from Jefferson last season should quickly prove to be a one-off, and it's also fair to say that when Murray played with each name above, no player was in their "prime" to the level that Jefferson is.
While both Lamb and Jefferson should be in store for bounceback seasons, Jefferson's touchdown upside with Murray should prove significant between the two wideouts.
