The New York Yankees fell short of the World Series for the 16th time in the last 17 seasons, also marking their 17th consecutive year without a World Series victory. The 2026 loss came at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays
in a 3-0 sweep, raising questions about what lies ahead for the Yankees, especially as fans wonder about the future of manager Aaron Boone and potentially general manager Brian Cashman. For the many frustrated Yankees fans who have called for a change at manager, specifically, the latest comments from Buster Olney on ESPN New York's Dipietro & Rothenberg may not be what you want to hear. Olney addressed the potential for any significant changes and admitted he doesn't expect any change regarding Boone or Cashman.
"Look, I know
that there's always a lot of conversation when the Yankees lose around the manager," Olney said. "There are certainly organizations where it feels like that there are fissures and fractures between the owner and the general manager and the manager. I have not seen one [with the Yankees]. You talk to Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone is his guy, and we know through actions, through the 30-year relationship, that Brian Cashman is Hal Steinbrenner's guy. So my guess is there won't be a change."
