NFL Power Rankings Week 2: Texans, Cowboys in dead heat to show who is more fraudulent

We've identified four teams whose fans may be down in the dumps after how the first week of the 2026 NFL season went and talked about why they could all be in discussion for a new quarterback in the spring.

We're not saying all of these teams are locks to add a new guy, but the trends right now might be pointing in that direction if things stay the same. Teams like the Arizona Cardinals,

New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers all won in the first week of the season, but they could join these ranks if those successes flip around into losses.

One of these teams is a controversial addition, but we've included them just for the sake of the argument.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns looked atrocious on Sunday, with quarterback Deshaun Watson barely able to stay afloat against a red-hot Jacksonville Jaguars team. Cleveland looked like it's just biding its time until 2027 when the factory of sadness gets to coronate its latest young quarterback as the possible savior of the Dawg Pound. At this rate, those hopes will likely be rewarded. The Browns look like the worst team in the NFL, which may be a blessing in disguise for the long-suffering franchise. In a supposedly formidable quarterback class, being bad in 2026 may have its perks.

Miami Dolphins

if the Dolphins keep playing this poorly throughout 2026, that Malik Willis contract is going to age like spoiled milk... and at no fault of Willis, unless he plays poorly. This is a rebuilding team that doled out a major free agent quarterback contract in the spring; never a good idea for long-term team-building. However, Miami will still probably just take a quarterback anyhow and sit him for 2027 if the draft pick is as high as it looks right now. If you're a Dolphins fan, you've just got to hope the guy you possibly draft next year is okay sitting for a year behind Willis with the contract set up as it is ($39.3 million in dead cap in 2027). While Miami can still get their guy next spring, signing Willis and continuing to look as bad as they did against the Las Vegas Raiders may slow the process a bit.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are a tough team to evaluate. The defense looked fast, aggressive and opportunistic against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the offense basically couldn't function with third-string quarterback Cooper Rush at the helm. It was abysmal in a way that screams top-overall 2027 NFL Draft pick. However, the Falcons should eventually transition to Michael Penix Jr. once the latter is ready to play. That could come as soon as Week 2, or it could wait until early October. However, the Falcons are just an impossible team to evaluate until Penix plays. Once he does, the team can finally evaluate whether or not he's the guy moving forward. If Penix struggles, the odds of the Falcons drafting a quarterback in the spring are as high as any other team in the NFL. Falcons fans will understandably wretch at how the offense looks right now outside of Bijan Robinson, but Penix should raise the floor and the ceiling. The big question is if it's enough to keep him entrenched in the job for 2027, or if he's just playing on borrowed time.

Tennessee Titans

Could the Titans move off Cam Ward in 2027? That might seem wild for the 2025 top-overall NFL Draft pick, and he's still got the entire season to figure things out. However, if he doesn't and the Titans bottom out, don't be shocked if Tennessee makes the aggressive move to find a new starter. That might seem like an overreach with Ward only in his second season, but NFL timelines continue to speed up, right or wrong, on quarterback development. If Ward isn't taking the steps to solidify the job, the Titans could shock the world and pivot. We're not saying this is the most likely scenario, but what's regarded as a deep quarterback class, don't rule it out completely.
