An extremely active, El Niño-supercharged Pacific Ocean has wreaked havoc from Mexico to California in terms of hurricane-generated surf and coastal flooding.
There’s nothing beneficial about this. But at times, ocean water slamming into fixed structures such as breakwaters and boardwalks appears mesmerizing and show-like.

The accompanying footage, for example, is reminiscent of the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas in that sheets of water cascading above Puerto Vallarta’s malecón are illuminated before a captive audience.
Hey Vallarta titled its video, "The Wave Show," and at least one Facebook follower mentioned the Las Vegas vibe.
"A fantastic moment," another follower remarked.
Hurricane Simon is advancing parallel to Mexico on a path toward
the Sea of Cortez.
On Tuesday, Simon was located 210 miles south-southwest of Mazatlan and boasted sustained winds of 90 mph.
A Hurricane watch is in effect for portions of the states of Nayarit and Sinaloa, while a tropical storm watch is in effect for portions of Jalisco, where Puerto Vallarta located.
