This is a seriously scary story from Maumelle High School in Maumelle, Arkansas: Per KARK, a player on the football team "noticed unusual movement inside his helmet" during practice last week. He alerted a coach and then they figured out what it was.
It was a snake that was living under the padding in the helmet. Animal Services from the area determined it wasn't just any snake. It was about a two-foot cottonmouth, which is a venomous snake that the player had been wearing on his head for around an hour. He was lucky he wasn't bitten.
“I’ve removed a snake out of a car vent, in the engine, purses, backpacks,” Maumelle Animal Services Direct Chris Davis told KATV. “In a helmet? Never.”
What a relief that the player didn't get bitten and that the snake
was found.
