For all intents and purposes, I'm going to assume most people already know Travis Kelce's story.
A future First-Ballot Hall of Fame tight end who has produced like almost no other for a decade-plus. A central role as one of the main characters in the Kansas City Chiefs
' modern Super Bowl dynasty. A rise to superstardom outside of a sporting context after a marriage to one of the biggest pop stars of all time. At this point, Kelce is kind of larger than life.After everything he's been a part of, it's really hard to imagine an NFL without him.

But as Kelce's Chiefs gear up for a Monday night duel with the AFC West rival Denver Broncos, we have to start considering the possibility that there's only so much left of us seeing Kelce as a football player. After all, he will be 37 in early October, and each of the past two seasons was, by his standards, two of the worst of his career. Kelce remains a good and effective player, but he's certainly not the same field-tilter he once was. His decline has begun. And, in the context of that Chiefs dynasty, he's already accomplished everything he could as a professional football player. He hasn't left anything on the table that would require him to keep pushing himself to play indefinitely.
So, when will Kelce actually retire? For now, Kelce seems to be taking things year by year. While he could probably call it quits soon, he did just sign a contract extension with Kansas City in March. Officially speaking, he's only guaranteed on the Chiefs' books for 2026, and they could void his remaining deal in the offseason (they're not going to, but you know what I mean).
There's no Kelce retirement talk for the time being, but look for that to change whenever the Chiefs' 2026 season comes to an end. At this late stage in his career, it'll probably be one of the primary conversations regarding Kelce until he finally hangs up his shoulder pads.
When will Andy Reid retire from the NFL?
The other elephant in the room for the Chiefs is the status of their future Hall of Fame head coach, Andy Reid. On this front, as told to Yahoo, Reid maintained that he still has a few years left on his contract with Kansas City and that he may well just go out with Kelce ... whenever he does:
"Travis [Kelce], he came back in phenomenal shape," [Andy] Reid said. "So I know people have said it's his last year and all this, but he has looked great.
And as long as he can keep that up and go, we might be able to check out [retire] together down the road there."
In other words, don't necessarily count on a Reid retirement any time soon.
