After a Week 2 hamstring injury, it had been a while since we'd seen Caleb Williams work his magic for the Chicago Bears. The third-year star quarterback gave us an emphatic reminder of what he's capable of with a masterful performance in a win over the Atlanta Falcons, earning the right to go full Kirk Cousins after the fact.
But that might not have been the most impressive development from Williams' glorious return to action on Sunday.
You see, with his touchdown pass to Colston Loveland against the Falcons, Williams officially became the third quarterback in NFL history to record at least 50 touchdown passes before throwing 15 interceptions in his career. Who are the other two quarterbacks to manage this understated but noteworthy feat? Three-time
Super Bowl MVP and two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, and two-time MVP Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.
Oh. Oh, wow. Talk about elite company to share a player like Williams, fully coming into his own in Chicago:

For those keeping score at home, Williams has special sack avoidance, special big-play ability, he doesn't throw many interceptions, and he's finally become an elite processor thanks to Bears head coach Ben Johnson's tutelage. In other words, he does everything great quarterbacks do. So, I didn't necessarily need to see this eye-opening statistic to know Williams was already one of the NFL's premier quarterbacks. Because he is, and without a doubt.
But now? It seems clear to me that Williams very well might have a perennial MVP-caliber future in his own right. The Bears and the city of Chicago should feel ecstatic about the kind of quarterback Williams can clearly become.
