Jackie -- the Big Bear bald eagle that has been followed by so many bird enthusiasts on a live stream from the Big Bear Valley Eagle Nest Cam -- died earlier this week, according to the Ojai Raptor Center on Aug. 10.
The Center had recently given a "difficult" health update for Jackie, who had been rescue and given veterinary care after a fight with other eagles. At the time, Ojai Raptor Center had said "Her packed cell volume (PCV) has dropped to 13%, which means her anemia has worsened since our last update. Our veterinary team is responding quickly."
But on Monday, the Center posted this devastating message on Facebook, telling the world that Jackie had died: "It is with profound sadness that we share that Patient 26-519 passed away in the early
hours of this morning, following more than three weeks of intensive medical care."
