If folks were asked which place would have the best reaction to Pete Alonso crushing his 300th career MLB home run, they would answer Citi Fied.
Because life has a funny way of working itself out, that is exactly what happened in Queens on Tuesday evening. Alonso, like his former teammate Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, entered the game with 299 home run under his belt.
Alonso left the Mets to sign with the Baltimore Orioles this past offseason and longtime supporters were very upset at executive David Stearns for letting him walk.
After New York fans loudly rooted for him to join the three-century club at his longtime home ballpark, they got exactly what they wanted. Once the game was over, the former NL Rookie of the Year and five-time MLB All-Star
slugger met up with the three fans who caught the dinger.
Alonso, who received a curtain call from the New Yorkers after hitting a no-doubter out of the park, got the historic ball back from the attendees who caught it in the stands.
In exchange, the first baseman brought them beers to hang out and he signed their jerseys. He also gifted them bats for their thoughtful gesture as well. This was a very classy move by Alonso.
