Welp, so much for Week 1 unders being a lock. 2026 got started with a bang, as NFL teams combined to put together the highest scoring opening Sunday since the 1970 merger.
However, thanks to all three of my over picks hitting, I still made out OK Sunday, correctly picking six of the 12 games. As we search for a better result in Week 2, we'll have an extra game to choose from with one less prime-time game on the slate (goodbye weird Wednesdays).
Will the high-scoring continue another week? Or will defenses catch up and make their mark on the season? These are my over/under picks for Week 2.
Week 2 over/under picks
Favorite over: Commanders-Cowboys Over 50.5
Wild, I know, considering this is the highest total Sunday. But what we have here is a battle of desperate division rivals who each boast bad defenses. That
means the offenses will be the conduit of that desperation, and the Cowboys still potentially have one of the very best offenses in the NFL. Even after their embarrassing season-opening loss to the Giants. I'm looking for Dak Prescott and Jayden Daniels to put up points in this one.
Favorite under: Seahawks-Cardinals under 41
After the Cardinals' surprisingly dominant win over the Chargers last week, this game might be closer than we previously would've expected, but I don't think that happens with a bunch of points. The Seahawks defense remains dominant this season, holding Drake Maye and the Patriots to 10 points. And while the offense will have an easier time against Arizona, it's still being led by backup Drew Lock as Sam Darnold nurses a soft-tissue injury.
Least favorite total: Panthers-Falcons 43.5
The Panthers just gave up 59 points to the Bears (and scored 37), so it's easy to talk yourself into taking the over in this game... until you remember the Falcons are being manned by Cooper Rush, who really struggled in the opener. But that doesn't inspire much confidence in the under either, because Rush has performed well in the past and will get a full week of practice to prepare this time around. This is a tricky game to call.
