The mix of emotions that comes with a top NFL player signing a franchise tag can ultimately raise significant concerns about the long-term outlook. That certainly stands true for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens, who's coming off a career year in his first season with the team, and will play the 2026 season under the franchise tag. While Pickens is set to make $27.3 million this season, there are plenty of questions about his long-term future with the franchise, but Jerry Jones put some of that to rest with his recent comments.
While speaking with reporters at Thursday's training camp practice, Pickens responded to comments made by Jones, as The Athletic's Jon Machota detailed.
"Make no mistake about it, George [Pickens] could be a Cowboy
for the rest of his career, and that’d be a long time," Jones said earlier in the week.
Not surprisingly, this was a sigh of relief for Cowboys fans and a comment that Pickens loved to hear, admitting that he's "super excited."
"Super excited," Pickens responded. "I’m always super happy when someone thinks highly of me, so shout out to Jerry."
