By now, you've probably seen it. Orioles center fielder Colton Cowser made easily the catch of the season on Monday night in Denver when he robbed what would have been a walk-off home run for the Rockies.
It was the kind of catch that Cowser will hear about for a long time, and it was undeniably the coolest way to end a ballgame. But there was another side to the catch, and it came from the man who hit the baseball.
Rockies outfielder Jake McCarthy could only watch as his would-be walk-off home run became a 425-foot fly out. During the broadcast, we could see as McCarthy held back a smile out of amazement. What else could he do after that?

After the game, he continued to be
a great sport about what had to be such a disappointment. After all, the Rockies don't win often, and McCarthy thought he gave them a win there ... until he didn't. He said via MLB.com:
"I honestly didn't know if it was going to get out. He was playing a little shallow. When I saw his numbers go back, I figured there was a chance that it was either going to hit off the wall or be a home run.
"That was a hell of a play. That was crazy, obviously, the situation, just how difficult that play is. So, that stinks. But I respect it. Great play."
Honestly, it's tough to be mad after a catch like that. Cowser earned it. But good on McCarthy for offering up that gracious response.
