Monday night is a big game for the ascending New Orleans Saints. It's early, but they may well have found their new franchise quarterback in Tyler Shough. And it's fitting that the team's first (and only, for now) major primetime game of the year will come against their main NFC South rival, the Atlanta Falcons
. Unfortunately for the Saints, they will still not have all hands on deck for the tilt.Rookie first-round draft pick receiver Jordyn Tyson, who injured his hamstring during the Saints' preseason in August, is still reportedly "weeks away" from making his official debut with New Orleans. Woof. That's a tough blow to the Saints, who could certainly use more viable pass targets for Shough outside of All-Pro Chris Olave.
Alas, everyone will
have to wait until Tyson is fully recovered and healthy. More from ESPN's Adam Schefter on when we might see Tyson finally suit up for the Saints:
With the bye in Week 8, a potential Week 9 return might be the most logical course of action for the No. 8 pick in this year's draft, according to sources. It would provide an additional couple of weeks of rest for Tyson, who has had a history of hamstring injuries.
Tyson's injury history from college is undoubtedly playing a factor in the Saints being more cautious with him. The last thing everyone in the organization wants is to push the playmaker to play a week or two too early, only to see him get hurt right away. So, it makes more sense to give Tyson more time to ramp up and get onto the field after the Saints come back from Paris in Week 9. That would set up a home debut against the Cleveland Browns. A home game against a winnable opponent is usually how teams want to introduce players into their programs.
It'll still be a little while before we see Tyson play for the Saints. But at least there's an apparent light at the end of the tunnel.
