Gloria Steinem -- a feminist icon, civil rights activist, award-winning journalist, author and founder of magazines like Ms. and New York -- died at the age of 92.
The announcement came from her Instagram page on Thursday morning, stating that Steinem had died on Wednesday at her home in New York City, "surrounded by some of the many who loved her."
What was the cause of death? None was listed, but it did say she "passed away peacefully."
"Gloria’s greatest gift was her ability to listen to others, to make others feel seen and heard," the post read. "Her words, actions, and example gave people permission to be their truest selves. Gloria lived true to her independent spirit, always with curiosity and a great sense of humor."
