It's been a brutal year for the Colorado Rockies. They own MLB's worst record at 52-86, plus their 5.47 ERA ranks last among all 30 teams.
Monday against the Baltimore Orioles, the Rockies proved they're far from done in proving just how much they can disappoint their fans. As Colorado trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, outfielder Jake McCarthy stepped to the plate with two outs and the tying run on second. McCarthy crushed a sinker from Orioles right-hander Andrew Kittredge, leading everyone in (near-empty) Coors Field to think it was a walk-off home run.
Orioles center fielder Colton Cowser had other ideas. Cowser sprinted to the wall and did an Air Jordan-like leap to come down with an unbelievable home run robbery, stealing a rare
win from the Rockies.

Despite the heartbreaking finish, McCarthy has enjoyed a solid year in Colorado. He's batting .289/.330/.473 with a career-best 14 home runs and 70 RBI. The 29-year-old and his Rockies teammates will have a shot at redemption when the Orioles-Rockies series resumes tonight at 8:40 p.m. ET.
