After a relatively quiet September in theaters, things are heating up for October. Tom Cruise is back with a controversial movie, there's a sequel to a wildly popular 2010 Oscar winner and a new Sebastian Stan thriller. And that's all in the first nine days of the month.
This month is so stacked that we even omitted some others that are very intriguing like Mahershala Ali's Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, Jessica Chastain's horror flick The Other Mommy, a Street Fighter reboot and the newest DCU entry with Clayface.
Here are six movies we are excited for this month.
Digger (October 2)
The new Tom Cruise flick has been polarizing with critics, coming in at a nearly even split of 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. While decidedly not a musical, Digger will be a favorite
to some, and hated to others. Either way, we can't wait to watch.
Verity (October 2)
Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett team up for this adaptation of a wildly popular Colleen Hoover adaptation. This story is a perfect fit for the trio, and the twist will leave moviegoers stunned.
The Social Reckoning (October 9)
It has been 16 years, but Aaron Sorkin is back with another story about Mark Zuckerberg and the impact of Facebook on society. Sorkin takes on directing duties this time around, with Succession's Jeremy Strong taking on the controversial lead. Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison and Betty Gilpin also join what is likely to be a movie with strong Oscar buzz.
Fjord (October 9)
Sebastian Stan in a Palme d'Or winner? Say less. Stan -- with significantly less hair than his Bucky Barnes roles -- is the patriarch of a family that comes under scrutiny during an investigation.
Sense and Sensibility (October 16)
Jane Austen is back on the big screen with this highly anticipated adaptation from director Georgia Oakley. Daisy Edgar-Jones (Twisters) plays Elinor Dashwood, with Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne. George MacKay, Catríona Balfe and Fiona Shaw round out a stellar cast.
Wicker (October 30)
This might be the weirdest movie coming out in 2026, but the combo of Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård as an unlikely couple is going to be incredible. A lonely fisherwoman (Colman) asks the town basketmaker (Peter Dinklage) to make her a husband (Skarsgård). Also stars Elizabeth Debicki.
