Oregon Ducks football coach Dan Lanning may have more to worry about than injuries and underwhelming, on-field poor performance so far this season.
Multiple local outlets, including KATU's Hallie DeVore as well as KVAL, reported that Oregon star receiver Evan Stewart was booked at Springfield Municipal Jail on Sunday morning following the comeback victory over Nebraska on Saturday. Stewart, a senior, was ruled out for the game due to injury.
His teammate, receiver Dakorien Moore, reportedly posted his bail. Here is more (via ESPN):
"Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested early Sunday on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Police in Springfield, Oregon, told local ABC affiliate KATU that Stewart was booked at approximately
7 a.m. PT on Sunday.
Stewart was released about an hour later to a third party, fellow Oregon receiver Dakorien Moore, according to KATU."
Victim Information System in Oregon (VISOR) records showed Stewart was booked but out of custody. There is no official comment as of Monday morning from Stewart, Lanning, nor the University of Oregon.
Other reporting indicates that Stewart's driving under the influence of intoxicants had nothing to do with "online rumors" of street racing involving other teammates (via OregonLive.com):
"Springfield Police told The Oregonian/OregonLive on Sunday that online rumors of street racing involving Oregon football players were unfounded, and that several Oregon players were contacted by police early Sunday morning because they were in the area of a separate pursuit.
That pursuit, which resulted in Springfield Police discovering an abandoned vehicle, was unrelated to Stewart’s alleged DUII arrest. Springfield PD is no longer pursuing the case involving the abandoned vehicle, an official said."
Springfield Police Department told USA TODAY's Ducks Wire that they "had no reason to believe" the car pursuit that evening was connected to the Oregon football team.
