One second separated Michigan football from a historic upset loss to Western Michigan and a jaw-dropping Hail Mary touchdown from quarterback Bryce Underwood to wide receiver JJ Buchanan.
In what's easily the most controversial finish of the 2026 season so far, Western Michigan looked to have completed a stunning upset in the Big House over Michigan on a failed Hail Mary from Michigan.
However, the refs somehow added one second to the clock, even if the game replay clearly showed the clock hit zero before the ball hit any player on the failed Hail Mary attempt.
According to NBC Sports officiating expert Terry McAulay, there could have been a discrepancy between the stadium clock and the television one. That's the only sensible answer we can imagine.

If you're a Western Michigan fan, you have to be sick. You arguably got robbed in the biggest upset in your school's history on some wonky clock logic. What a brutal finish for the Broncos.
