Rockstar Games has officially responded to questions about the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, and specifically the popular GTA Online option. Unfortunately, those who were hoping to see the game's beloved online mode drop alongside (or close to) its November 19, 2026 release date got some bad news.
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier recently interviewed Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, as Dexerto revealed, and dropped a tidbit about plans for GTA 6 online play. According to Schreier, the company has not talked "at all" about what the new version of online play will look like for GTA 6.
"Right now, Take-Two is only talking about GTA 6 in terms of the single-player portion, which will not presumably have recurring revenue," Schreier said.
"I don't think
they're putting microtransactions in the single-player game. And not GTA Online, they have not talked at all, and they are not planning to talk anytime soon about what the new GTA Online will look like and what that recurring spend will look like."
For what it's worth, Rockstar didn't release online play with GTA 5 for several weeks after the game's initial release. The same stood true for Red Dead Redemption 2, as Red Dead Online came out roughly one month later.
