Trail-cam footage from the foothills of the Canadian Rockies in Alberta shows a hungry young grizzly bear trying desperately to run down a herd of wild horses.
As viewers will note, the horses are on high alert and, in this case, seem to easily outrun what looks like an exhausted and inexperienced grizzly bear. (See video below.)

The footage, captured from different angles and narrated by the Help Alberta Wildies Society, provides a fascinating glimpse into the dynamics involving grizzly bears as apex predators and free-roaming horses with keen survival instincts.

The chase, shown from different angles, occurred July 26 at Spanner’s Bridge, where a young horse named Spanner was
killed by a grizzly bear last year. (Click here if video player doesn't appear below.)
In this case, the horses were off and running long before the bear enters the frame. But, as the narrator states, “He’s definitely got horse meat on his mind. There’s no question about that.”
HAWS, in recent years, has shared several clips showing these types of chases. A grizzly bear's best chance involves the element of surprise, or to catch a foal or any horse that stumbles during the pursuit.
