The Indianapolis Colts could be getting a key playmaker back for Week 1. Wide receiver Alec Pierce is being removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to beat reporter Mike Chappell, after missing all of training camp due to ankle surgery.
It hasn't been the smoothest offseason for Pierce. The 6-foot-3 field-stretcher signed a four-year, $114 million deal in March, but he had the ankle procedure later that month after an earlier platelet rich plasma treatment wasn't effective enough for his liking.
With Pierce finally closing in on a return, let's take a look at what his activation from PUP means for fantasy football.
Why did Colts remove Alec Pierce from PUP?
While it's uncertain if Pierce can play Week 1, the Colts needed to make this move anyway as Pierce would've
had to miss at least four games if left on the PUP list when the roster cuts to 53 on Sunday. He's now healthy enough to practice with over two weeks until the Colts' season opener, so even if he does miss time, it likely wouldn't be an extended absence.
How does Alec Pierce's injury update affect Colts fantasy outlook?
The Keenan Allen signing threw a wrench into any optimism about the Colts wide receivers, from a fantasy perspective at least. Allen and Josh Downs will likely cancel each other because they have duplicative skillsets, just like we saw with Allen and Ladd McConkey with the Los Angeles Chargers last season. It's tough to depend on Pierce either, as missing training camp could affect his conditioning and connection with Daniel Jones. Tyler Warren is the only Colts pass-catcher worth going out of your way to select in drafts.
