The Green Bay Packers narrowly escaped an embarrassing loss to the New York Jets in Week 2. They managed to double down on their ineptitude during Thursday Night Football, and this time it ended far differently.
Bijan Robinson and the Atlanta Falcons, who didn't even reach the red zone over their first two games, pummeled the Packers 35-14 at Lambeau Field. The former Texas star rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns, with his backfield mate Brian Robinson adding 50 yards and a score. Drake London also exploded for 194 yards on nine catches, excelling with Michael Penix Jr. back at quarterback.
The Packers inability to stay on the field exacerbated the defensive issues. Green Bay went 3-and-out four times and rushed for 17 yards as a team. The offensive
line was atrocious while the non-Josh Jacobs running backs have proven massively underwhelming. The passing game couldn't get fully in sync either, particularly the connection between Jordan Love and second-year receiver Matthew Golden.
After a night he'd like to forget, LaFleur had two harsh words to describe the loss postgame.
“It was a butt-whooping,” LaFleur said. “I’m not going to put it on one thing. Certainly, we definitely have to respond better, but that was at least three quarters of butt-whooping right there.”
LaFleur also admitted to reporters he doesn't know what the Packers are doing well offensively. Things won't get any easier Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Todd Bowles' blitz-happy defense.
Is Matt LaFleur on the hot seat?
As of publication, LaFleur (39%) is second behind Bowles (44%) for next coach out on Kalshi. The pressure couldn't be higher for their matchup next week.
