Squirrels are not known for their swimming exploits in the middle of vast lakes, but watch the accompanying footage and you’re likely to be impressed.
The footage, shared Tuesday by RMA Outfitters, shows a squirrel not only swimming at an astonishing speed across a lake in Canada, but using the fishing boat that pulled up alongside the critter as a lifeline and means of escape.
The entire episode is comical if you put aside the fact that the squirrel was potentially in danger of drowning or being plucked from the lake's surface by an eagle or hawk.

The RMA Outfitters crew is to be commended for rescuing the charismatic "little dude," and for documenting the scene from start to happy
ending.
"Swim to shore my friend – you’re welcome!" the amused narrator proudly exclaims after reaching the shoreline. "See ya buddy!"
It’s not clear how the squirrel ended up so far from shore before the encounter, but one follower suggested that it might have been dropped from the air by a bird of prey.
